Man, 46, struck and killed by auto in Woodlawn neighborhood

A 46-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle in the Woodlawn neighborhood on the city's South Side, police said this morning.

The accident happened just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 6300 block of South Stony Island Avenue, police said, citing early reports.

The victim was standing in the street when a southbound vehicle being driven vt Ernest Brown, 61, satruck him head-on, police said.

The victim, whose identity wasn't immediately available, was rushed to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Brown, of the 6900 block of South Bennett Avenue, remained at the scene, but was cited for not having insurance and driving too fast for the rainy conditions, police said.

Police aren't seeking felony charges.
