DALLAS -- Free-agent guard Drew Neitzel signed with the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, when the defending NBA champions confirmed they had acquired Lamar Odom from the Los Angeles Lakers.
A former Michigan State standout, Neitzel went undrafted in 2008 but played for Minnesota's summer league team and then Portland's the next summer. Neitzel played in Germany last season, averaging 7.7 points, 3.4 assists and 1.4 rebounds in 16 games for BBC Bayreuth.
The Mavericks acquired Odom -- last season's NBA sixth man of the year -- and a second-round draft pick for a first-round pick and an $8.9-million trade exception.
Charlotte: The Bobcats signed guardKemba Walker, the ninth pick in this year's NBA draft. Terms were not disclosed. Walker, 6-feet-1, led Connecticut to the NCAA championship, averaging 23.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 37.6 minutes for the Huskies.
Golden State: The Warriors waived guard Charlie Bell under the new amnesty provision, wiping his remaining contract from the salary cap and avoiding any luxury-tax penalties. Bell (Michigan State, Flint Southwestern) never reported for training camp. Authorities said Bell showed up intoxicated at a Thursday court date for a drunken driving arrest in Michigan. He already was facing a one-game suspension without pay after pleading no contest to reckless driving in California. Bell appeared in 19 games for the Warriors last season, averaging 1.7 points and 9 minutes. ... The Warriors signed center DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers to a restricted free-agent offer sheet. The Clippers have three days to match the offer.
Indiana: Former New Orleans power forward David West, a free agent, said he has agreed to play for the Pacers. The contract is for two years and $20 million, agent Lance Young said. West, 31, had reconstructive surgery on his left knee April 12.
New York: The Knicks signed veteran guard Mike Bibby, re-signed forward Jared Jeffries, and inked their two draft picks -- guard Iman Shumpert and center Josh Harrellson.
Phoenix: The Suns re-signed forward Grant Hill. The former Piston agreed to a one-year, $6.5-million contract. Hill, 39, averaged 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 80 games last season, his fourth with the Suns and 16th in the NBA.
Portland: The Trail Blazers signed 16-year veteran center Kurt Thomas, who played for Chicago last season. At 39, he is the NBA's oldest active player, one day older than Hill.
