A young NSW man electrocuted while holidaying in Bali was one of the nicest guys you could meet, his mates have said.
Jake Flannery, 18, from the NSW Central Coast, was killed outside Jokers Bar and Grill, at Legian Beach, in the popular tourist area of Kuta, in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The teenager graduated from Gosford High School last week and was on a schoolies trip with his mates when the tragedy happened.
"He was funny, hilarious, cheeky," friend Tiarne Mitchell told the Seven Network.
"And generally one of the nicest guys."
Another pal, Emily Graham, added, "We just want to be here to support his mum that's flown over and all his friends."
Mr Flannery was electrocuted when he touched a neon sign attached to the cafe, and a metal pole, in an area of the street which was under repair.
His distraught parents said they don't blame the cafe's owners.
"He could have been there on holiday with us and the same thing could have happened," Mr Flannery's mother Cheryl told Seven.
"He could have been in Australia and something happened."
Ms Flannery said people tried to help her son by the side of the street and as they rushed him to hospital in a taxi.
Jake's father, Colin, described the moment he waved his son off.
"I shook his hand, gave him a hug and said, `See ya mate, have a good time.'"
Mr Flannery's parents said it was the first time their son had travelled overseas and he had been very excited about going.
Police in Kuta have launched an investigation into the accident.
Australian consular staff continue to provide assistance to Mr Flannery's family and friends and say they will help with arrangements to bring Jake's body home.
