The £2m sale of the former Public Record Office in Belfast has fallen through.
The property, located in a prime residential area in Balmoral Avenue, south Belfast, was put up for sale in April 2011.
The decision to sell the building followed a move by the record office to new premises in the Titanic Quarter.
It is understood the sale was close to completion last autumn when it fell through.
That left the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure with a £2m gap in its finances.
The department then had to ask the finance minister for funds to cover the delay in the sale.
Sammy Wilson confirmed on Tuesday his department had made up the short fall from central funds.
The property, and the two acres of land it sits on, is now back on the market for an asking price of £2,250,000.
