Pakistani officials say dozens of militants launched an attack on a paramilitary checkpoint in Pakistan, killing at least three soldiers.
The Frontier Corps said at least 14 insurgents were killed when troops responded to the attack Monday in the Mohmand tribal area, near the Afghan border.
The identity of the militants was not immediately clear, but Afghan and Pakistani Taliban have strongholds on both sides of the porous border.
Pakistan has been under pressure to do more to destroy militant sanctuaries since a U.S. military raid last year killed al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden in the Pakistani garrison town of Abbottabad.
